Ever wondered exactly what it takes to make the Theme Check plugin happy?
Simon Prosser and Otto Wood maintain a plugin called Theme Check, which is used by the WordPress Theme Review Team to ensure that themes submitted to the Free Themes Directory meet certain standards. The report breaks issues down to “required” and “recommended”, allowing developers to decide what is most important for their particular theme.
I was curious as to what a theme would look like if it did nothing but satisfy the checks in Theme Check. Following the Theme Review Team’s own guidelines, I assembled two different “themes”: Theme Check Required (meeting only, um, the Required notices) and Theme Check Recommended, which is the minimum necessary to return no notices at all from the plugin. You can both preview the theme and download it from the above links (both previews use the test data from the theme unit test).
This exercise brought up a few interesting points and gave me some ideas, so stay tuned for more (look out Trac, here I come).
